What affects price?
Where your money actually goes on a custom print.
Material volume (the biggest factor)
Filament is priced by weight, and weight scales with model volume. A 10 cm hollow shell weighs a fraction of a 10 cm solid block.
- Scale matters more than you’d think — doubling the size multiplies the cost by ~8.
- Walls and infill — we default to 3 perimeter walls + 15% gyroid infill. Stronger or display-quality settings cost more filament.
- Hollow vs solid — hollow models with internal supports are cheaper and lighter; solid prints feel premium but cost more.
Print time
Printer hours are billable. Time is driven by:
- Layer height — 0.12 mm fine takes ~2× longer than 0.2 mm standard.
- Speed vs quality — faster prints have visible layer lines; fine prints take longer but need less sanding.
- Supports — overhangs add time both to print and to clean up.
Material type
Per kilogram, roughly:
- PLA — cheapest, easy to print, great finish. Default for display pieces.
- PETG — ~20% more than PLA. Stronger, better outdoor and warm-weather performance.
- ASA / ABS — ~30–50% more. Heat-resistant, UV-stable, paint-friendly.
- Specialty (silk, marble, glow, dual-color) — varies; quoted per spool.
Post-processing
Optional labor that turns a raw print into a finished piece:
- Support cleanup only — included.
- Sanding + smoothing — hourly; depends on surface area.
- Priming and painting — hourly; depends on detail and number of colors.
- Assembly — multi-part models bolted, glued, or pin-jointed.
