How to request 3D modeling

When no STL exists yet — what to send and what to expect.

What to send

The more we have up front, the faster the first draft.

• Sketches — phone photos of pencil sketches are fine. Multiple angles help.
• Reference images — anything that captures the look you’re going for: photos, screenshots, art, similar products.
• Dimensions — height, width, depth, or “fits in the palm of a hand.” Mark which dimensions are critical and which can flex.
• What it has to do — display only? snap onto something? hold weight? Tell us so the model is shaped for the job.
• Material in mind — PLA / PETG / ASA changes thickness and tolerances. If you don’t know, we’ll suggest.

What the modeling pass looks like

1. Scope and quote — we clarify what needs to be modeled, what it will be used for, and what the print constraints are.
2. Draft / preparation — the model is created, modified, or repaired enough to evaluate printability.
3. Review — we cycle through fit, proportions, or practical details agreed for the job.
4. Approval — when you sign off, we prepare the print-ready file.
5. Print — same workflow as any custom print order from here.

What we model well

• Props, replicas, costume parts
• Mechanical brackets, mounts, adapters
• Logo keychains, plaques, signage
• Articulated joints and mechanisms (within reason)
• Modifications to existing STLs — adding clips, holes, custom text

What we don’t take on

• Pirated character or game-asset replicas — we won’t model around a copyright.
• Highly organic / sculpted detail at miniature scale — those are better commissioned from a dedicated sculptor.
• Engineering parts requiring certified tolerances — fine for prototyping, not for production parts that go in a load-bearing assembly.

Pricing

Modeling is quoted per project. The quote should make clear whether you are paying only for print preparation, for a delivered STL, or for both modeling and printing.
